Healing Therapies for Inpatients

Acupuncture
This Chinese therapeutic technique involves the use of hair-thin disposable needles on specific points throughout the body. Acupuncture has proven beneficial for patients in relieving pain, reducing nausea and anxiety, aiding in fatigue management and sleep issues among other conditions/symptoms. View more information.
Aromatherapy
Since ancient time people have used plants in the production of essential oils for the benefit of healing. The art of aromatherapy has regained familiarity in recent years and the benefits from the use of therapeutic grade essential oils are numerous. Aromatherapy may provide relaxation, lessen anxiety, promote rest, revitalize, and promote a sense of well being. It can be used along with other integrative practices or simply used to refresh a room.
Auriculotherapy
Auriculotherapy is a painless technique that involves electrical stimulation of acupuncture points in the ear. It can help relieve low back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, nausea, substance addiction and other conditions. View more information.
Guided Imagery
Imagery is the natural language of the unconscious, and it can be used to support the healing process. Guided imagery puts you in touch with your internal imagery and teaches you to interact with it in a meaningful way. Imagery tapes also are available. Television channels 20 and 21 are available to patients 24 hours a day and offer self guided imagery.
Healing Touch
Healing touch enhances the body’s energy field to help support its natural ability to heal. It can be beneficial in reducing stress, calming anxiety, decreasing pain, strengthening the immune system, enhancing recovery from surgery, deepening spiritual connections, supporting care and easing acute or chronic conditions.
Healing Harp Music
Harp therapy is a new field of research and practice which explores the beneficial effects of the timbre to the harp. Recipients may receive beneficial effects such as increased relaxation, improved sleep, decreased pain and anxiety, and overall improvement in mood. Compact Discs (CDs) with Healing Harp Music are available.
Massage Therapy
Certified massage therapists provide massage services that promote healing and relaxation. A variety of soft-tissue techniques are available. Massage has been shown to be beneficial with pain management relaxation and stress reduction.
Spiritual Counseling
Chaplains are available to minister to individuals on an ecumenical and non-denominational basis, respecting and affirming all beliefs. A visit with a minister of your faith also may be arranged. Spirituality Channel 18 is available to patients and offers meditation, prayer and reflections. For more information, please call 314-251- 6470.
