Modern Healthcare Names St. John’s Mercy Top 100
Best Places to Work in Healthcare

St. John’s Mercy Health Care has been named among the 100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine. The list of the 100 organizations recognized is now available online. St. John’s Mercy Health Care includes St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, St. John’s Mercy Hospital in Washington, Mo., St. John's Mercy Health Services and St. John's Mercy Medical Group.

Almost 240 healthcare companies participated in this first-ever healthcare workplace listing. Modern Healthcare will reveal the specific ranking of the 100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare, from 1 to 100, in a special supplement to be published October 27, 2008.

“The healthcare environment today and in the future is characterized not just by shrinking margins; increasing regulations; new technologies; increasing consumerism; patient empowerment; autonomy and competition; but also by staffing shortage challenges and a heightened appreciation for the quality of the workplace,” said Fawn Lopez, Publisher of Modern Healthcare. “Modern Healthcare’s Best Places to Work in Healthcare” program identifies and recognizes healthcare organizations that have successfully built workplace excellence and enabled employees to perform at their optimal level. By sharing the best practices and innovations in the workplace settings, we hope to enable others to develop progressive human resources strategies critical to creating and sustaining the best healthcare system for patients,” added Lopez.

“This is an outstanding honor for the entire organization – co-workers, physicians, volunteers, leaders, board of directors and the Sisters of Mercy,” said Denny DeNarvaez, president and CEO of St. John’s Mercy Health Care. “It’s always nice to be acknowledged by an independent party as we continue our efforts to provide patients and families with high quality health care services.”

In recent months St. John’s Mercy Medical Center has been named “Best Place to Work” by the St. Louis Business Journal, recognized by J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Program SM for providing an “outstanding patient experience” in maternity care, named a top hospital by U.S. News and World Report magazine for ear, nose and throat care, and honored as a Blue Distinction ® Center for Complex and Rare Cancers by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Missouri.

Sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy Health System, St. John’s Mercy Health Care operates St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis, St. John’s Mercy Hospital in Washington, Mo., St. John's Mercy Health Services and St. John's Mercy Medical Group.
