After Kathy Lightle was misdiagnosed by physicians in Texas as having had a minor heart attack, Kathy returned home not understanding what truly had happened to her or where to go from there. After returning to Searcy, she chose to meet with Dr. Katherine Durham, a cardiologist from Unity Health - Cardiology Clinic.
Dr. Durham explained that Kathy had actually suffered from takotsubo cardiomyopathy, or what is commonly known as "broken heart syndrome." Broken heart syndrome is a temporary heart condition that is brought on by stressful situations.
"It terrified me at first when I found out that I had broken heart syndrome," Kathy said. "It has taken nearly five years for me to believe that I am ok. I had to put a lot of trust in Dr. Durham, but she made that very easy to do! Anxiety of something going wrong with my heart is still a daily fear I deal with, but I am better every day. I have so much more life to live!"
