Physician Residents Learn from AR SAVES
Unity Health physician residents recently heard from UAMS physician Dr. Sanjeeva Reddy Onteddu, M.D., who spoke to them about the UAMS AR SAVES program. Onteddu, a neurologist, discussed acute treatment options, etiological classification, secondary stroke treatment and educated the residents on recognizing the pathophysiology of ischemic stroke. The lecture was part of the physician residents' Grand Rounds and accreditation for continuing medical education.
As an AR SAVES facility, Unity Health partners with UAMS to provide patients and the communities we serve with the emergency care they need when suffering from a stroke. According to Jasper Fultz, Trauma Registrar and Coordinator for Unity Health, many patients do not understand the severity a stroke can have and often do not treat it as an emergency. However, on the onset of stroke systems, one should seek medical assistance to prevent debilitating effects.
AR SAVES is a state-wide stroke management system that links emergency room doctors at participating hospitals to specially-trained vascular neurologists via live, two-way video. This partnership ensures Unity Health can effectively administer quality-of-life saving medication that significantly improves the chances of recovery, while reducing permanent, stroke-related disabilities.
