Unity Health Hosts CAMP in Newport

Unity Health – Harris Medical Center recently held its first ever, Unity Health CAMP program. CAMP, which stands for Careers and Medical Professions is offered through the hospital's education department and offers 10th – 12th grade students with first-hand experience in the medical field.
The program is designed for students interested in pursuing careers in the healthcare field and allows them to learn basic nursing skills as well as first aid and CPR. The curriculum provides students with a framework to match their interest to a specific career in the medical field. They then learn more about that career by "applying" for a job in the medical field, including the completion of a job application and mock interview. The students are hired into positions and at the end of the weeklong program; they are paired with specific medical professionals and work in a mock hospital during a simulation disaster drill.
"Our desire is that the students were able to gain experience that will allow them to find a career they can be passionate about and that will fit their skill-set and interests," said Levi King, Education Director at Unity Health. "We want to provide the best experience to our students so that they will be able to help our community improve the quality of health and well-being."
