Unity Health to Offer New Summer Camp

Unity Health is now accepting applications for Careers and Medical Professions (CAMP), a new program created for 8th-12th-grade students, offered through the hospital's education department.
CAMP, a special summer program designed for students who are interested in pursuing careers in the healthcare field, offers students opportunities to participate in medical-related activities such as first aid, CPR, healthy lifestyle education and learning basic nursing skills.
"In junior high and high school, students often start thinking about what kind of profession they want to pursue after graduation," said Delaney Giles, Unity Health Education Assistant. "Our goal for this program is to introduce students to the medical field and give them firsthand experience as well as insight to the variety of healthcare jobs available and what preparation is needed for those positions."
Eligibility requirements include: a completed application form, due May 2, 2016; a GPA of 2.5 or higher, two letters of recommendation and a recent transcript. Applicants are also required to submit an essay stating why they are interested in the CAMP program; 75 -100 words for junior high applicants and 100-150 words for high school applicants. Students must also provide personal transportation to and from the CAMP location each day. Prerequisite science courses are not required, but biology knowledge is encouraged.
CAMP will be held for junior high students on the Unity Health – Specialty Care Campus (1200 S. Main St. in Searcy) from June 22 – 24 and for high school students on the Unity Health – White County Medical Center Campus (3214 E. Race Ave. in Searcy) from June 20-24. Each class will be held 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with lunch provided each day.
